Castellans - Chronology of an idea

It must have been around the beginning of 2001, when a small group of music-loving carnival came up with the idea to make a sort of "folk festival" in Bevergern. A little later, some people drove this group to 12 Open Air Immecke the Sauerland. In this open-air, the Pentecost of "The Juhnkes" annually - a band from Plettenberg - is prepared, played like every year a lot of great bands. In 2001, it was the band "Bardic" that ultimately brought the "ball rolling". Thus the spell was broken. Now it had to be something, the visiting Bevergerner music friends thought! After the concert, the musicians of Bardic Sarah-Jane and Stefan were (Eddie) summarily caught and made the first contact. This contact was then further developed in concert in Lingen (Hunter Green) and sending Horst (Titanic).

At the 7th Bevergerner Old Town Festival 2002, it was finally over, we had made it in the held four-yearly festival the organizing working group "Old Town Festival" to convey the band "Green Blade Rising" and "Bardic" to Bever happy and bring in Bevergern on stage. We were completely surprised and amazed at how strong the response of the audience this evening at the stage in the "Lord Street. Since this response was also felt weeks after the festival yet, that was reason enough for us to carry on.

In 2003 we have taken together then others with the original clubs of the city Hörstel the musical direction of the event "ESCAPE TO-POINT" with the venues in Bevergern and on Gravenhorst monastery. Again, the inclined audience was delighted with the bands "Bardic" and "Lady Godiva" in Bevergern; "Ceili Family" and "An Rinn" played on the Gravenhorst monastery.

So we set out to plan a festival in 2004 and got the offer to conduct the festival on the beautiful grounds of the Water and Shipping Authority Rheine at the old Bergeshöveder lock. With the bands "Ceili Family" and "In Search of a Rose" we met here a nose and so the taste of the hundreds of visitors.

During the preparations for last year's open-air club, the establishment of the Castellans-initiative committee was held on 04.07.2004, who works as a registered non-profit organization since the beginning of 2005. The full name is now: Castellans Music Initiative eV Bevergern!

The main purpose of the association is to promote performance opportunities for music groups, in particular the promotion of European folk music culture in the regional space. Next, the association is the development and promotion of amateur free artistic work in the field of music as well as related initiatives, models and projects in the artistic and cultural education area. So we supported in 2005 the school center Hörstel with a musical instrument worth approximately € 500.00 in their music education work.

The summer of 2005 was Castellans folk then again at the usual place at the "Kulturufer Wet Triangle" in Hörstel-Bergeshövede instead. We were able to welcome some visitors who had traveled far, cheered the three (equally strong) bands "Finn," "The Aberlours" and "In Search of a Rose" despite the bad weather, several hundred. Once again it was a brilliant evening that will be remembered for a long time ....

Reassuring to see that the folk Castellans summer 2006 was a great success again. Ticket requests from all over North Germany showed us in the preparatory phase that "Castellans" is always known. At the festival itself we again rented the best weather, so the band "Filthy Nelly" from Enschede and "Finn" from Waltrop easy game had the several hundred visitors to inspire quickly, before the crowning conclusion of the band "3 daft Monkeys "from Cornwall (UK) entered the stage. A beautiful summer evening on the canal came to an end ... we look forward to Castellans 2007!

On 5 August 2006 - exactly one week after the Castellans 2006 - we participated together with Samba PaTu eV actively involved in organizing a music stage at the 8th Bevergerner Old Town Festival. As members of the working group Altstadtfest we made it to a super-equipped stage of the company L & S band "Cantina" and appear to have "Blue Front Cafe". The audience was in complete celebration mood from the previous weekend, so a hot musical night nothing stood in the way here ...
